We’re all well aware of the well publicized major tournaments that are the WPT, EPT, Aussie Millions, WSOP and more. But it can be easy to miss some of the great online tournaments that are happening right under our noses. The biggest and most notable online tournaments can be classified according to which sites host them.
PokerStars
PokerStars.com is arguably home to the biggest online poker tournaments and some of these include the Super Tuesday which is a $1050 buy-in and $400,000 guaranteed. It is a No Limit Hold’em held every Tuesday at 19.55 ET. The Wednesday Quarter Million also features and boasts a $320 buy-in and $250,000 guaranteed. It takes place on Wednesdays at 21.00 ET. The Saturday $100,000 features a $320 buy-in $400,000 guaranteed. Held at 13.00 ET on Saturday, this tourney has a smaller field attributable to the time that it’s held.
Super Sundays
The Sunday warm up is a $275 buy-in and $750,000 guaranteed held every Sunday at 12.45 ET to warm up players for the more lucrative Sunday Million consisting a $215 buy-in and a whopping $1,500,000 guaranteed. It runs every Sunday at 16.30 ET, has a full house and is deemed as a highly valuable tournament as most entrants are people who play above their skill level. There is also the Sunday 250 with a $350 buy-in and $250,000 held at 17.30 ET and one of the toughest. Finally, the Sunday Second Chance is a $215 buy-in with $250,000 Guaranteed No Limit Hold’em tournament held at 18.30 ET and which offers a last chance to players who may have lost money earlier in the Sunday Million.
Full Tilt Poker
At Full Tilt Poker which is the second biggest site for tournaments, we find the Monday $1000 with a $1000 buy-in and $300,000 guaranteed held at 2100ET each week. The Wednesday $1000 is next and this is a $109 rebuy guaranteeing $100,000. It runs at 2100ET and is one of the biggest. The Sunday Brawl has a $256 buy-in and $300,000 guaranteed running at 1400ET. This is a bounty tournament with $200 going into the prize pool, $40 becoming the bounty on that player’s head and $16 as tournament fee. The Sunday Mulligan with a $216 buy-in and guaranteed $200,000 winds up the list.
Ultimate Bet
At Ultimate Bet Poker, there are two tournaments that are held but only on Sundays and these are the Sunday $100,000 Deep Stack which is a $530 buy-in with a guaranteed $100,000. It runs at 14.00 ET. Later on at 1600ET is the Sunday $200,000 Guaranteed which has a $215 buy-in. It usually rises up to around the $250,000 mark.
Titan Poker
At Titan Poker, which does not accept US players we find the Friday $100,000 Rebuy that has a $109 buy-in which runs at 21.00 GMT. Available also is the Sunday $250,000 Guaranteed that has a $320 buy-in and runs at 19.00 GMT and is the premier tournament. The guarantee is almost always exceeded.
Major annual tournaments
SCOOP
The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) 2010 will run from May 3rd to the 16th. Each of the 33 events is to have three buy-in levels and features almost every format offered by PokerStars. The main event will be the highlight with guarantees of $1Million, $3Million and $5Million. The 2010 SCOOP is guaranteeing upwards of $36Million prize money.
WSOP
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2010 is hosted by Harrah’s and will feature the delayed final table as it supposedly boosts TV ratings. With a battered economy in 2009, players were robbed of their discretionary spending and only the main event was able to surpass 1000 entrants with this year’s event likely to follow the same trend. The 2010 WSOP will host 57 events so as to include low buy-in events and the prestigious one such as slow ball, stud and H.O.R.S.E that are mostly for the professionals. It is also hoped that the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E can draw more than 97 participants in 2010. The WSOP remains a prestigious tournament that is second to none with the allure of winning a bracelet, being mentioned alongside the game’s greats and the enormous cash prizes.
WPT
Another major tournament happening in 2010 is the World Poker Tour (WPT). This is an ongoing series which kicked off at Venice, Italy on the 6th of May 2009 and concludes at the Bellagio, Las Vegas on April 24th 2010. Upcoming events in this series include the Bay 101 shooting star competition to be held between March 8th and March 12th 2010, the Hollywood Poker Open in Lawrenceburg, IN to be held between March 2oth and 24th 2010 and finally the WPT championships to be held in Las Vegas at the end of April 2010. The WPT is hosted by Pokerstars.com. Dick Corpus emerged the winner of the Bay 101 shooting star competition with earnings totaling $133,000.
WCOOP
The World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) 2010 will be held on September 3rd at 2.30pm EST. The 2010 WCOOP will add 12 brand new events to the line up bringing the prize money to $40Million. There will be a total of 45 events kicking off with the $215 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Six Max event. Later on during the 3rd September, the schedule for the tournament continues with a $215- Razz tournament ($200,000 guarantee). The next day hosts a $215 pot-limit Omaha six-max game, a No-Limit Single Draw 2-7 tournament and a $109 buy-in eight game competition (50,000guaranteed). This year’s event promises to be the biggest yet for Pokerstars.
